Other plats approved unanimously included Parkway Place (final plat), Cottonfield Place No. 2 (final plat after clarifying the carved-out parcel), and Interstate Industrial Park 7A for Hyundai Electric Systems of Alabama. Commissioners also approved a final plat for a small residential parcel submitted by Betty Davis.
Separately, the commission considered a rezoning request for property at 8 Phillips Street (filed by Brandon Cleveland). Calvin Martin, speaking for the applicant, described the request to change the parcel from M3 general industrial to R99S mobile dwelling subdivision. Resident Michael Jackson spoke in favor of residential-only uses near his property. Commissioners agreed to qualify the approval so that it would be limited to residential use; the motion to approve with that qualification passed unanimously.
The commission concluded by voting unanimously to appoint Natasha Miles as executive secretary; the role was described as the position that signs minutes and provides development and rezoning recommendations to the commission.
Key project details recorded during the meeting included a proposed McDonald's site plan for a one-story, 4,316-square-foot restaurant on approximately 1.29 acres with 44 parking spaces at 1630 Federal Drive (public hearing held) and a proposed 117-room Marriott-brand hotel for the Eastchase site (public hearing and later approvals).
