Council erases old official-map line to allow subdivision final plat

The Common Council adopted Ordinance No. 3159 on June 2 to amend section 6.01 of the municipal code and the city’s official map affecting 10670 South Nicholson Road. Staff said a preliminary plat approved more than three years ago lapsed because state statutes require a final plat to be recorded within 36 months of plan-commission approval; the amendment removes a previously reserved dashed alignment so the developer can pursue final plat approval consistent with the subdivision layout now under construction.
Christy Lane, community development director, explained the official-map amendment is largely a map cleanup: "The application that's before you is to eliminate or erase the red dotted lines on the map...so that our maps are not conflicting with each other," she said. Plan commission recommended approval at its March 10 meeting.
Council discussed drainage and utility work near an existing home on Elm Road and confirmed the S-shaped road configuration is already in place; staff indicated outstanding utility adjustments were expected to be resolved. A motion to approve Ordinance 3159 was seconded and approved by roll call.
The amendment clears the official map so the developer—Switchback Enterprises—can finish final plat procedures; staff recommended and the council approved the change as a technical step that aligns the official map with the on-the-ground subdivision layout.
