A board member summarized the multi‑year background that led to the OAG review, saying the investigation originated from a complaint filed in 2022 and resulted in the OAG finding “reasonable cause to believe” the district engaged in a pattern or practice of unlawful discrimination related to recommendations involving pregnant, postpartum and parenting female students. The board member said the district disputes the finding and emphasized the parties’ language that the district does not admit liability.
During a substantial open‑meeting statement the trustee urged the board to issue a public apology to affected personnel, students and taxpayers for decisions the speaker said had caused “significant morale damage” and financial costs. Other trustees responded by emphasizing the need to center students and families and by noting work underway to improve accessibility, transparency and services.
The motion to approve the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance passed by roll call. Administration said it will provide ongoing updates to the board during the multi‑year monitoring and implementation period set out in the agreement.
