Arlington holds first reading to abandon Airline Road right-of-way, reserve utility easement for MLGW

At its June 1 meeting the Town of Arlington Board of Mayor and Aldermen held the first reading of Ordinance 2026-08, which would abandon a town right-of-way beginning on Airline Road and dedicate the town's interest to Summers Square LLC.
Town attorney/staff member Mr. Patterson explained the measure is a state-law process when a right-of-way is abandoned: "Pursuant to state law, whenever you're abandoning the right of way... it's supposed to go back to the adjoining property owners," he said, adding that the ordinance expressly reserves utility easements for MLGW. Patterson also noted the engineer prepared an exhibit and identified stormwater infrastructure that must be accounted for in the legal descriptions.
Staff recommended approval at first reading; a motion and second were made and the presiding official announced the item passed its first reading. Additional documents and precise legal descriptions will be recorded as part of the road realignment and platting process.
