Bourne district announces new career pathway, early college designation and facility projects

District leaders told the committee about several programmatic and facilities milestones. The high school received approval to add an advanced manufacturing innovation pathway using Project Lead The Way curriculum, intended to offer students industry‑level skills in engineering and design.

Administrators also announced the district’s official early‑college designation, which will let participating students earn transferable credits through Mass Maritime under a two‑year hybrid model; the pilot admitted four students for next fall. Mrs. Bourne said the program model spreads coursework across junior and senior years so students can keep ties to their high school while earning college credits.

The district also reported a successful on‑site review for a Chapter 74 application to add a design and visual communications vocational technical program; the final step is a Parent Advisory Council meeting. Facilities director Mr. Geist updated the committee on the ongoing middle‑school roof project, nearly completed bleachers (ADA accessible), a wastewater treatment plant bid opening scheduled for June 25 and sustainability upgrades to kitchens and composting.

Mr. Oliver, technology director, briefed the committee on summer technology projects, a push to reduce phishing and spam through cybersecurity work with area IT directors, and recent aerial drone footage captured for promotional use. Officials urged families to complete bus‑transportation sign‑ups so routes can be finalized for next year.
