Susan (reading the proclamation) told the board the text calls attention to an estimated one in 10 older Americans who experience abuse, neglect or exploitation and urges residents to learn the signs of elder abuse and support efforts that protect older adults. Supervisor Miller moved to adopt the proclamation and Supervisor Jones seconded the motion; a roll-call vote was taken and all supervisors voted in favor.
Representatives from Connections Area Agency on Aging and related agencies thanked the board. Tammy Winchester identified herself as the dependent adult abuse program administrator for the state of Iowa, Ginger King as a supervisor with the Department of Health and Human Services, and Shelley Haynes as a Pottawattamie County employee who also works with the Western Iowa Services Collaborative Disability Access Point. Winchester and other speakers emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination and community awareness.
The proclamation was signed and the group posed for a photo following the ceremony.
