Construction begins near Jefferson and Romana for new downtown USPS location, mayor says

Mayor DC Reeves said construction is beginning outside the new U.S. Postal Service location at Jefferson and Romana Streets and described temporary staging to limit traffic impacts. "Some of the drop-off areas are going to be along Romana Street, and they're going to go ahead and knock that out before we get heavy into construction on Palafox to mitigate some of the additional traffic issues," Reeves said.
Reeves said restoring a downtown post office is a priority for local businesses and residents and that the work will help return a downtown postal presence. He called the development "great for all of us" and encouraged residents to look out for construction activity downtown.
The mayor framed the work as preparatory to larger downtown construction efforts.
