Manager outlines stakeholder talks on property acquisition and previews PBA bargaining process

Township Manager Hoffman reported that township staff met with stakeholders, including municipal and school-district representatives, to discuss potential acquisition of parcels at Huntington Pike and Buck Road. Hoffman said the conversation was exploratory and that affected parcels include larger properties on Byberry and Buck and smaller parcels near Huntington Pike (including the site of an antique shop). He said municipal and school-district boundary questions may affect any acquisition and that staff will prepare a joint presentation with the township’s stakeholder representative and bring it to the board in September for public discussion. A possible October school-board work session was discussed if staff-level reviews produce a proposal to present to elected boards.
Labor negotiations: Hoffman said the township received initial PBA (police bargaining unit) proposals and postponed the first scheduled bargaining session; staff will analyze the proposals’ fiscal impact and coordinate with labor counsel. He said the contract expires at the end of the year and that if no agreement is reached by Dec. 31, prior terms would continue and any negotiated changes could include retroactive pay.
Hoffman said staff will report back with more detailed financial analysis in coming meetings.
