Town of Concord HDC approves Margaret Fuller statue for library reading garden

The Town of Concord Historic District Commission approved an application to install a restored bronze statue of Margaret Fuller in the reading garden at the Concord Free Public Library on Sudbury Road.
Jeff Adams, a trustee with the Concord Free Public Library Corporation, described the proposal and the statue’s provenance. Adams said the sculpture is being restored at Skylight Studios and that the library plans a small granite base and a bronze plaque on the garden seating. "Margaret Fuller was a journalist in the 1830s and 1840s and was an advocate for women's rights, women's education, and the right to employment," Adams said, explaining the statue's local and literary significance.
The commission asked no substantive changes and voted to approve the submission for 129 Main Street. The chair called the roll; commissioners indicated support and the motion passed unanimously.
Adams invited commissioners and the public to a dedication scheduled for May 23 at 2 p.m. The library said the plaque will be placed on seating within the garden and will not be visible from the public way.
The commission's approval allows the library to proceed with on-site restoration and installation; staff will follow up on final placement details and any required administrative filings.
