The Kingston City School District presented its districtwide safety plan for 2026–27 and opened the plan for a 30‑day public review period beginning tomorrow.
"The districtwide safety plan applies to the entire district and focuses on prevention, intervention strategies and coordination with police and emergency responders," said Mr. Parker, the district's director of safety and prevention. He described the plan as a framework that pairs a districtwide policy with school‑level building emergency response plans containing site‑specific actions, entry/exit routes, reunification sites and responsibilities for incident commanders.
Mr. Parker described partnerships with local law enforcement and county preparedness teams, the establishment of threat assessment teams, expanded monitoring and communications systems, an anonymous reporting program, and recurring drills and staff training. He noted that because building‑level plans contain sensitive access and layout details, they are not publicly accessible and are shared on a need‑to‑know basis with responders and assigned staff.
Board members asked whether the district would provide written prevention resources for parents; Mr. Parker and trustees said the district will communicate the comment period and make guidance available, and the plan will be posted for public review. Trustees commended the district's safety culture and said they will promote community partnership to support prevention and compliance with safety procedures.
The 30‑day public comment period and materials will be posted on the district website; the board did not take a formal vote to adopt the plan at the meeting but initiated the public review process.
