Olentangy Education Foundation awards $85,000 in teacher grants; fundraiser planned for Aug. 14

"Out of that we selected 27 grants for a uh largest slum in history, $85,000 which will uh be presented to uh teachers and staff this year to support our students," said the foundation representative, noting a new automated application system and prior endorsement from the district leadership team. The presenter said the grants came from more than 40 applications covering roughly 68% of district buildings.
Superintendent Mr. Meyer thanked the foundation and emphasized that local property-tax revenues and state contributions cover core operating expenses—while foundation grants fund special programming. "You can provide some really cool classroom experiences that otherwise would not be available to our kids," Meyer said, citing past arts grants and outside artists who worked with students.
The foundation announced its primary fundraising event, "Zoo and Tangi," scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14 at the zoo. The event will include animal feedings, food, and community activities; foundation organizers said proceeds will fund the next grant cycle and that sponsorships and tickets are available via the foundation website.
Board members who spoke praised the foundation's work and encouraged community attendance. The presentation did not include individual grant recipients by name; board members said they will circulate more details as the grant awards are distributed.
The board moved on to other business after the presentation; the foundation's announcement and the planned fundraiser were part of the meeting's presentation agenda.
