The RSU 67 Board of Directors on May 20 voted to give the superintendent authority to keep district operations moving over the summer, approving several administrative authorizations and routine personnel appointments.
The board authorized the superintendent to enter into contracts for special-education and other services needed for the 2026–27 school year to ensure continuity of services during the summer hiring period. Board member Diana Lambert moved the contract authorization; the motion carried after a second.
The board also granted the superintendent permission to apply for and accept federal and state grants, including funds under the Every Student Succeeds Act. Superintendent Rockwell said ESSA allocations for the district will be “a little bit more than we have in the past, which is over half a million, 500,000.” The motion to authorize grant applications was moved by board member Timothy Wright and seconded by Patricia Noble and carried.
To permit staffing and onboarding during the summer, the board authorized the superintendent to hire staff between June 18 and the next RSU 67 board meeting on Aug. 5, 2026. The motion carried.
Separately, the board approved the superintendent’s appointments for the 2026 summer school and extended-school-year programs. The approved stipend schedule included $800 per week for teachers, $400 per week for special-education technicians, $425 per week for the credit-recovery secretary/health aide, and $500 per week for the speech-language pathologist assistant. The vote to accept these appointments carried.
The board moved into executive session under 1 MRSA §405(6)(D) for a labor matter; upon returning to open session at about 7:21 p.m. the board announced no action would be taken from that session.
All procedural votes were carried as announced; one earlier consent-agenda vote was recorded at 8–1. The board adjourned at 7:22 p.m. The next regular RSU 67 board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 5, 2026.
