Court ratifies deputy appointment, approves bond releases and equipment purchases, and lifts burn ban

Blanco County commissioners on Jan. 28 approved several separate motions that together make up routine operations for the county.
Personnel and appointments: The court ratified the selection of Justin Chase as a deputy for Precinct One C's office to replace Morgan Card and authorized pay effective from when he began performing full-time deputy duties.
Bonds and development: A commissioner reported that one construction bond could not be released because a suppression tank issue remained unresolved. The court approved motions to release maintenance bonds for Legacy Hills phases and Round Mountain Reserve Phase One after the required two-year maintenance periods had elapsed.
Equipment and surplus: Commissioners approved specifications and the purchase of a 2022 John Deere 60G mini-excavator as outlined in the FY24–25 capital plan. The court also declared 20 large plastic bins, four used tires and rims, and two MaxPak cardboard bailers as surplus for disposition.
Burn ban: After requests from fire departments and private landowners and given a favorable rain forecast, the court voted to lift the county burn ban for the near term; at least one commissioner recorded an abstention. The court then announced it would recess into executive session to discuss possible litigation and real-estate matters, per the Open Meetings Act.
