Sam, planning staff, presented the City of Gaithersburg’s 2025 annual planning worksheet and illustrative report and explained that because the city issued eight building permits associated with One Central, the city is required to submit the short form to the Maryland Department of Planning for 2025. The packet included a worksheet and a more detailed illustrative report summarizing planning, economic development, affordable housing and public works activities in 2025.
Commissioners praised the report and asked whether staff could include a year‑by‑year comparison of project counts from 2020 through 2025; staff noted prior year reports are archived on the city website and said staff could include comparative metrics in future reports. Staff also noted the city expects to submit the long form for 2026 due to anticipated permitting activity.
Staff recommended that the Planning Commission adopt the state's 2025 annual planning worksheet; the motion to adopt the short form was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
What happens next: staff will submit the short-form worksheet to the Maryland Department of Planning as required and prepare an expanded long-form submission if 2026 permit activity triggers the long form requirement.
