The Shelbyville City Council on June 2 approved an ordinance adopting the certified tax rate and passed the city’s annual budget for fiscal year 2026–27, along with final amendments to the 2025–26 budget.
Ginger introduced the certified-tax-rate ordinance, saying the rate was being adopted as calculated by the State Board of Equalization. Council member K. said, “our preliminary certified tax rate is 1.003.” Staff noted the county board of equalization was still meeting and that the State Board of Equalization is expected to issue a final certified rate between mid-June and the end of June; another speaker said, “for now, it’s 1.03.” The council then approved the ordinance by roll-call vote; each member present voted yes.
The council next considered and adopted the annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027. The ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call vote with the members present voting in favor.
Council also approved an ordinance making final amendments to the adopted FY 2025–26 budget. Katie was asked if she had any comments and said she did not; the council adopted the final amendments by roll-call vote.
The meeting’s votes were taken by roll call; the clerk recorded affirmative votes from the council members present on each ordinance. No formal dissent was recorded in the transcript.
The council then proceeded to other agenda items.
