City community-development staff described an ongoing wayfinding-sign project that has refreshed dozens of signs around Goodland and requested an additional $10,000 from the city to complete a large gateway sign at the Highway 27/cattle-trail entrance.
Josh, representing project staff, said the total project is roughly $81,000, with $70,000 for the bulk of signs and an additional $11,000 for the cattle-trail gateway sign. The county recently voted to provide $10,000; project leaders asked the city to match that $10,000 so SECD could preserve funds for other summer events and mural projects.
Commissioners discussed whether TGT funds (transient guest/tourism-related receipts) had been used and how much remained; staff said they had paid about $42,000 to date and roughly $39,000 remained to complete the project. Commissioners split questions across whether SECD or the city should bear the cost, but a motion to fund the city’s $10,000 contribution passed by roll call.
Commissioner Floyd moved to approve the $10,000 city contribution; Commissioner Howard seconded. Staff said the infusion will finish the gateway sign and free SECD dollars for events such as revived races and the Runway Rivalry.
