Planning commission recommends combining parcels to allow Lennox Township Library expansion
Summary
After a public hearing, the planning commission voted to recommend that the village council approve combining multiple parcels on Main Street to clear a first regulatory hurdle for a proposed expansion of the Lennox Township Library; the recommendation is conditioned on meeting final zoning and utility requirements.

The planning commission opened a public hearing and voted to recommend that the village council approve combining parcels that include Main Street addresses 58976 and 58954 to allow a future expansion of the Lennox Township Library.
Beth Bober, who identified herself as the library director, told the commission the current building is too small to meet growing community needs and that combining the lots would help the project avoid current setback restrictions. “It is time for our community to have a bigger library,” Bober said, adding the expansion would create more program space, quiet study areas and meeting rooms.
Beth Oakley, a member of the library board, urged commissioners to approve the lot combination so planning and design work can proceed. “We're trying to move forward and we need this in order to move forward,” Oakley said.
Planning staff explained the item before the commission is a land-combination action only and does not itself change zoning. Staff said there are three parcels involved (two filing numbers were listed in the public notice), and recommended approval conditioned on the applicant meeting applicable zoning standards and providing any required utility-company letters. Commissioners asked staff to confirm that all parcels were included in the application and to add typical conditions related to utilities and later site-plan review.
A commissioner made a motion to recommend approval of the lot combination for parcels 58976 and 58954 (and associated parcel identifiers), with the condition that all zoning requirements and any required utility-company filings be met prior to development. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Next steps: the commission's vote is a recommendation to the village council; any rezoning or building permit work would be subject to separate review and approvals by council and staff. The commission did not adopt final zoning changes at this meeting.
