Council approves budget amendments to move building and code enforcement under fire department

Staff said moving the building department and code-enforcement activities under day-to-day fire-department oversight will create operational efficiencies because full-time fire personnel can assist with inspections and patrols. Officials noted some pay lines would be adjusted to reflect duties (for example, a portion of the building-department supervisor’s pay would be allocated to the new arrangement).

Council members said the change is intended to improve response and inspection capacity while using existing staff hours and that the village will monitor results.
