The department intends to reuse serviceable equipment such as lights, radar, console and prisoner cage where appropriate.
Council members questioned why the requested spending authority equals the full vehicle price rather than the net amount after insurance proceeds. Staff said the $51,000 was placed into an insurance proceeds account and that the council needed spending authority for the full purchase price; the insurance proceeds can be used toward the acquisition. Members also asked whether any insurance subrogation efforts would restore deductible amounts; staff said they would check with finance on subrogation and reimbursement to the city for the standard $2,500 deductible.
The department said the replacement vehicle will be funded through insurance proceeds and a budget code for insurance recoveries, and committee advanced the item for council action.
