The Voorhees Township Committee on Nov. 24 held first readings for two ordinances: an amendment to chapter 74 establishing a ‘Do Not Block the Box’ traffic section, and an ordinance to vacate public rights to portions of Paul Street and Morton Avenue and authorize a street sign on the township right-of-way. Mayor Mcnona called the items for first reading and asked for motions.
Both ordinances received motions and seconds for first reading. The chair called for an oral vote on each first reading; the chair said the motions carried after members answered "I." No roll-call dissent was recorded on first reading votes in the meeting transcript and the items were advanced for further consideration.
The traffic ordinance would add Section 9 to the township’s traffic schedules to identify intersections or areas where motorists must not block traffic when a signal or congestion prevents clearing the intersection. The vacation ordinance would extinguish public rights over designated portions of Paul Street and Morton Avenue, subject to the terms and conditions read into the record, and permit placement of a street sign on the township right-of-way. Both were read by title for first reading and were not adopted at final reading in this meeting.
Because both items were at first reading, no final adoption, conditions of sale, property conveyances, severance terms, or implementation dates were established at this meeting. Any future action, including a final vote or conditions attached to a vacation, will be scheduled for subsequent committee consideration.
