Residents urge study of rideshare staging and warn low turnout threatens local democracy

Jeffery Dale, a transportation professional and former taxi operator, told council that Auburn should study transportation services for major events and consider establishing designated rideshare pickup, drop-off and staging areas to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. "These types of locations can improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and increase pedestrian safety," he said, and offered to assist staff in developing recommendations.
Robert Wilkins said just one in five eligible citizens voted in the recent election and urged stronger civic participation, saying low turnout hands decision-making to a small minority. "When only 20% vote, our property taxes, school quality, traffic and future growth are decided by the minorities who show up," Wilkins said, urging residents to vote and to consider running for office.
Other commenters urged careful long-term planning for growth, respect for a local church amid a development dispute, and highlighted the Auburn Public Library's summer reading program. Councilors thanked speakers and encouraged follow-up with staff and planning committees.
