Lake Stevens council authorizes $4,362 cost-sharing agreement for high-resolution LIDAR imagery

Council authorized the mayor June 2 to execute an interlocal cost-sharing agreement with Snohomish County and the Washington Department of Natural Resources for participation in a regional high-resolution LIDAR (referred to in the meeting as LAR) imagery collection.
City staff said the county and DNR contracted for very high-resolution aerial data that Lake Stevens will use to build an updated tree-canopy inventory, support stormwater and NPDES reporting, and improve critical areas and climate action planning. Staff noted the city's most recent comparable dataset dated from 2017 and that the new imagery will help with planning and regulatory reporting.
Troy (city staff) said the city already has budgeted funds for the project and requested council authorization for the city's interlocal share. The motion to approve the interlocal agreement and authorize the mayor to sign was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The staff-presented city contribution amount was $4,362.
Councilmembers asked no substantive questions during the motion discussion and the measure passed by voice vote. Staff said GIS staff (named Zach in the presentation) will ingest the data and begin building the canopy inventory.
