The Ripley County Fair Board voted to hire Rick Deon for a part‑time, seasonal maintenance/assistant role. Board members interviewed Deon, who described experience as a maintenance superintendent and said he holds Class B commercial driver’s licenses and has skills in welding, electrical and plumbing work.
Board members said Deon’s experience should reduce the workload on office staff during peak fair season. Charlie moved to hire him and the motion received a second; the board approved the hire by voice vote. Deon noted two pre‑existing short trips in May that he had already paid for; the board acknowledged and agreed to accommodate those dates when scheduling.
The board asked staff to provide a formal hire packet and to notify Deon promptly so he would have timely information about duties and start dates. The position was described as part‑time with heavier summer hours and reduced winter responsibilities.
