Zapata County commissioners approve a slate of hires, purchases and agreements

The court approved invoices dated Oct. 10–23 totaling $468,840.51 after adding $4,550 for a gate repair. Commissioners voted to purchase parts for county maintenance equipment totaling $3,756 from RDO Equipment Company, to hire two detention officers to fill vacancies, and to approve a $78,263.25 payment to Lewis Electric Motors & Pump for a new vertical pump for the county river raw-water intake, to be paid from certificates of obligation.
The court accepted a parts-only invoice from Mulan Oil Field Services for work at the Saninasio Waterworks (parts total approximately $13,350) and approved multiple hires across the emergency-services roster, including paramedics and EMTs at rates disclosed during the meeting. It also approved several candidate hires for water-operator trainee positions effective Nov. 3.
Commissioners adopted an agreement with the Zapata County Independent School District regarding use of the Los Seños Golf Course after an executive-session negotiation and accepted the retirement of a long-serving county firefighter/EMT, Gabe V., effective Oct. 31, 2025.
