Commissioners approve a series of departmental budget amendments totaling $111,200

The Craven County Board of Commissioners approved multiple departmental budget amendments during its June 1 meeting to cover unplanned costs and program needs.
Social services staff presented a recommended Home and Community Care Block Grant budget that lists an expected national grant award (NGA) of $622,658 and a required local match of $69,184; Clayton Gaskins told the board the NGA "has not been confirmed" and said the county will return for a budget amendment if the federal award differs. The board moved and unanimously approved the block-grant budget as presented.
The Solid Waste Department requested a $35,000 amendment to cover increased usage at seven convenience centers and an unbudgeted tipping-fee increase; the board approved the amendment unanimously. Recreation and Parks requested $44,000 to cover increased utility costs at West Craven and Creekide parks and routine buildings-and-grounds materials; staff noted more than 325 teams used the fields this year under lights and asked the board to approve a $44,000 amendment, which passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Planning staff requested $32,200 to remove four dilapidated mobile homes and associated solid waste at Sandy Ridge mobile home park under court authority; the county will seek to recover those cleanup costs from the property owner. That amendment was approved unanimously.
Each departmental amendment was moved, seconded and the clerk recorded unanimous roll-call votes approving the requested appropriations.
