Winchester to finish South End fire station in late 2026, deputy director says

City of Winchester Deputy Director of Public Services Kelly Henshaw said the South End Fire Station is on track for completion in late fall 2026, with demolition of the old station and construction of new parking expected by mid-2027.

Henshaw spoke on site for the city video series "Hey, what are they doing over there?" and said the project "has been going on for just over a year now and we're really starting to see some progress come up out of the ground." She described visible work: "we have lots of block that has been laid, the steel is starting to go up with this crane that is behind me."

She said the city is "working towards a finish and completion of the new fire station for late fall of 2026." After the new station is finished, Henshaw said the city will "be doing some demolition on the old fire station, creation of of new parking facilities" and that that work is expected "to be completed by the middle of 2027."

On the contractor, Henshaw said the city has "had a great experience with the contractor here on site" and that the project will be "a great improvement for the city of Winchester." The update did not specify the contractor's name, contract value, funding sources, or exact dates beyond the projected seasons cited by Henshaw.

The city did not announce a formal ribbon-cutting date in the update. Next steps outlined in the segment are completion of the main building work, followed by demolition of the old station and creation of parking facilities as described by Henshaw.
