Tangipahoa Parish finance committee approves revised 2025–26 operating budget

The Tangipahoa Parish Finance Committee approved a revised 2025–26 annual operating budget on June 2, 2026, voting unanimously to adopt adjustments presented by finance staff.

Mr. McNeely, a staff member presenting the revisions, said the largest change "has to do with the state stipend last year," and that the budget had to record both the expense and the matching revenue for that stipend. He also said money previously transferred from the general fund to the maintenance fund "was a mistake" and is being moved back, and that staff cleaned up accounting for several capital outlay projects that finished during the year.

The committee asked whether the state stipend would be built into the 2026–27 budget. Mr. McNeely said it will not be included until the legislature approves the stipend, so staff will not assume it in the coming year's budget planning.

A motion to approve the revised 2025–26 operating budget was made by Mr. Mingus and seconded by Mr. Moore. The vote was recorded as: Mr. West Morland — yes; Mr. Anthony — yes; Miss Dominguez — yes; Mr. Moore — yes. The motion passed unanimously.

Mr. McNeely told the committee staff will bring the 2026–27 budget to the committee shortly and that they are monitoring comments from the governor about potential changes to state funding that could affect next year’s planning.

With the budget vote complete, the committee moved to the next agenda item and later adjourned.
