It was an entire concrete loading area,” McNeely said, adding that the architect’s estimate was exceeded and that material-price inflation likely contributed.
Board members discussed options for reducing cost while retaining the school’s facade. McNeely said designers will revise the plan to shorten the canopy and eliminate unnecessary concrete while maintaining an architectural match at the building front. The board approved a motion to reject the current bids so the project can be redesigned and re‑bid.
Next steps: administration will work with the architect to value‑engineer the canopy and bring a revised design back to the board for rebidding.
