Superintendent Van Ayres publicly introduced and congratulated eight newly appointed principals and two cabinet‑level leaders at the June 2 meeting.
The principal appointments included Deanna McCann (Freedom High School), Cristina Vega (Buchanan Middle School), Victoria (Morris/Morse) and other site leaders; each appointee’s career highlights were read into the record and the board recognized family and colleagues. Van Ayres also announced two cabinet appointments: Chief Anthony Collins as the district’s Chief of Security and Emergency Management (beginning June 3), and Danielle Shotwell as Chief Human Resources Officer (effective July 1). The board formally approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting, which included personnel appointments.
Board members and the superintendent highlighted the importance of these leadership changes for school safety, employee support and organizational continuity. Chief Collins’ prior roles in large law‑enforcement agencies and Danielle Shotwell’s nearly 30 years with the district were noted during introductions.
Next steps: Appointees will assume their new roles according to the effective dates announced; staff said families and schools will be notified through standard communications.
