At the June 2 meeting, Library Director Matthew Davis updated trustees on several operational items. A VOKAL contract has been signed and LibConnect is being configured to send library notices to patrons, including SMS messages. Davis said two current staff members will increase hours to cover an additional circulation need rather than hiring new personnel, and that he and Mary Beth will reduce their involvement with the Friends of the Library.
Davis said a school budget vote bake sale raised more than $300 and noted a Milton Independent article referenced a quarterly book club; he clarified the library serves as a host space for community groups but is not in formal partnership with those groups. A National Honor Society student, Alana, is assisting Youth Services with tasks.
The board was briefed on a year-round Story Walk launching July 1: 24 posts have been installed along a level gravel walkway, and Friends purchased supplies for maintenance. Staff said rotating the story displays will require two staff members and a volunteer to clean signs weekly; signs should be cleaned with soapy water only and staff must take care not to strip screws when changing displays.
Programming updates included two beginner Mahjong courses led by Vivian (three sessions each) and summer offerings such as 'Unearth a Story' and Bingo. Cathy Vadnais will continue signing timesheets weekly until the town completes an online payroll transition, which will eliminate the need for physical signatures.
