The Milton Public Library Board of Trustees agreed June 2 to consolidate three draft community surveys into a single instrument designed to help prioritize limited library funds between technology, staff and facility needs. Joe Duquette, a trustee, will combine contributions from trustees and staff into a streamlined draft of no more than 25 questions.
The board scheduled a special meeting in July to workshop the combined draft using real-time ChatGPT prompts; Lorraine Kelm, youth services librarian, will support the session's technology needs while Director Matthew Davis is on vacation. Trustees discussed including demographic items (including aging residents), rank-choice options for priorities, and reducing or dropping facility questions to keep the survey focused on budget trade-offs between devices, public computers and staffing.
Trustees plan to bring a final draft to the August meeting for staff review and potential approval. Cathy Vadnais asked Recreation staff about the survey tool they used; trustees will follow up on that and other implementation details before finalizing the survey.
