The Eagan City Council voted May 5 to approve a staff‑initiated vacation of a utility easement at Lot 1, Block 1 United Stationers Addition (1720 Alexander Road). City staff explained the easement primarily contains private water main and storm sewer facilities that serve the property and that public easements are not required to address those private utilities.
Miss Miller, speaking for staff, said notices were sent to regularly interested parties and private utility representatives and that no responses indicated an objection to the easement vacation. Public Works Director Mathis described the easement’s historical context and noted the request followed a prior easement vacation for the same property under previous ownership.
Councilor Murphy Fields moved to close the public hearing and approve the easement vacation; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff will file the necessary documentation with Dakota County to complete the vacation.
