Mark Jenkins, who represents District 12 on the Metropolitan Council, updated the Rosemount City Council on June 2 about the agency’s roles and services that affect Rosemount.
Jenkins described the Council’s community development work (including comprehensive planning and livable communities grants), parks and regional trails that serve Rosemount, environmental services such as water resource recovery (the city is served by the Empire plant), and transportation programs including Metro Mobility and Transit Link paratransit services. He told the council that the Metropolitan Council serves a seven‑county region with 16 districts and noted projected regional growth through 2050.
Jenkins pointed to recent Metropolitan Council actions relevant to Rosemount: a comprehensive‑plan amendment, an expansion approval for a middle‑school MUSA (growth area) and pending sewer planning matters. He also said the Council’s last Transportation Improvement Program approved $10 million for reconstruction of CASA 46 (160th Street), a project currently slated around 2029.
Council members asked where residents could access the Met Council’s public documents; Jenkins offered a one‑pager and said staff can post materials or provide his contact information. He also said the Council is open to follow up on specific water reuse questions and local infrastructure concerns.
Jenkins said Rosemount is a beneficiary of several regional greenway and trail programs and that the Council works with cities, counties and tribes on long‑range planning and funding.
