Board approves street and boat-ramp closures for Regatta, Pride and Vintage Thunder events

Resolution 2026-22B authorizes closures and supervision control for the Madison Regatta and related events from Tuesday, June 30, 2026, through Monday, July 6, 2026, including Bond Drive, specified north–south streets between Bond Drive and First Street, the city boat ramp and several parking lots. Tim Bes, on behalf of Madison Reata, and a regatta organizer (Kyle) confirmed that the event footprint will match prior years. “Nope. The exact same footprint that we’ve used the past couple of years,” Kyle said when asked about changes.
The board also approved Resolution 2026-23B to close Vine Street (First to Second Street) for the Friends of Laneir Pride Festival on Saturday, June 27, 2026; Tom Stark, the event contact, summarized vendor and concession use for the lawn area.
Finally, Resolution 2026-24B authorizes closures for Vintage Thunder from Sept. 18–20, 2026. The organizer identified potential coordination issues with concurrent amphitheater and riverfront construction; board members said staff should remain flexible on staging. The board approved each resolution by voice vote after brief discussion and motions from members.
The resolutions direct staff to coordinate closures with public works, police and event organizers for traffic control and safety; no variance or special conditions were added during the meeting.
