The Village of Lake Bluff Board of Trustees on May 11 authorized replacement of two pumps at the Landsdown sanitary lift station and approved a waiver of competitive bidding for Metropolitan Pump Company.
Village staff described recurring seal-fail alarms on one pump and estimated shop repair costs at a minimum of $12,000 with uncertain parts and repairs. Given the pumps’ age and the likelihood the second pump will soon need similar work, the village requested a quote to replace both pumps; Metropolitan Pump Company proposed installing two new pumps for $34,536.
Staff recommended waiving competitive bidding and contracting with Metropolitan because the company serves as the regional sales representative and installed the station’s electronic controls, which facilitates integration. Trustees discussed the sole-source rationale; staff cited purchasing-policy provisions that allow sole-source procurement where appropriate.
The board approved the waiver of competitive bids and authorized the contract not to exceed $34,536 by roll-call vote. Village staff noted that the FY2027 budget includes $40,000 for Landsdown lift-station work and that the purchase would be within that allocation.
