Committee OKs forwarding permanent easement request for National Guard EV chargers

The Monroe County Waste Reduction District’s executive committee voted to forward a resolution and associated draft easement documents to the full board to permit Duke Energy to trench across district property and install conduit to serve four electric vehicle chargers proposed by the Indiana National Guard at its recruiting office nearby.
Staff told the committee the chargers would be metered and that the National Guard intends them to be available to the public when not reserved for recruiting use. Legal staff reviewed the draft easement language and raised no immediate objection; however, Duke Energy must supply final easement text before the item can be placed in the board packet. Committee members asked whether the work would affect trees or the creek; staff said the proposed run is across a grassy area north of the administration building and does not impact trees or the creek.
Because easement language from Duke may not be available before the Friday packet deadline, staff said the committee’s approval was conditional: if the final documents are not received in time, the district will remove the item from the packet. The committee asked staff to provide acreage/square‑foot measurements of the proposed permanent easement and to confirm any construction implications before the board considers the easement.
