According to staff presentation, the ordinance would amend Chapter 12 of the municipal code as set out in the attached exhibit and is intended to reduce minor access to tobacco and electronic smoking devices. "The regulation of tobacco products and electronic smoking devices is consistent with the Illinois prevention of tobacco use by persons under 21 years of age act," staff said during the second reading.
Alderman Vajeski spoke in favor of the ordinance, calling it appropriate public-health oversight. The council moved, seconded and adopted the ordinance by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded affirmative votes and the ordinance advanced as second reading concluded.
