Durham select board unanimously approves warrant articles ahead of town meeting

The Durham select board voted unanimously to approve the warrant articles that will appear at the upcoming town meeting, the board confirmed at its regular session. The motion to approve was moved by Josh and seconded by Rebecca; members voted in favor with no opposition.

The vote finalized articles that the chair said must be posted at least seven days before town meeting because town meeting "technically begins the morning of the municipal election date," and delaying would have missed the statutory posting window. The chair noted the board had already approved the content previously and this action consolidated all items "in writing in one spot."

Board members also used the meeting to discuss logistics for the town meeting itself, including a proposal from Rebecca to reposition the podium so speakers face both the community and the select board (placing the podium "kitty corner"). Some members cautioned against late changes to the budget committee's placement so as not to appear to undercut that committee's role; the board agreed to check moderator rules and, if acceptable, to practice the proposed setup the night before the meeting.

The board confirmed that the moderator has been asked (Bill Schneider) and discussed having a backup moderator option. The meeting schedule and setup items are expected to be finalized before the town meeting; the board also noted they may verbally recognize a scholarship recipient who cannot attend the town meeting.

The board adjourned after airing routine reports and previewing a busy June 23 meeting agenda that will include elections of chair and vice chair, an audit-service presentation, and committee business.

The select board will reconvene as scheduled and the warrant articles will be posted ahead of town meeting.
