The Chaska City Council met June 1 and approved routine business items including adoption of the meeting agenda, approval of the May 18 minutes, four consent items and payment of bills.
Routine procedural motions passed by voice vote or roll call: Councilmember Benish moved to adopt the agenda (seconded by Councilmember Hatfield); Councilmember Shevlin moved to approve the May 18 minutes (seconded by Councilmember Hatfield); Councilmember Shevlin moved to approve the consent items (seconded by Councilmember Benish); and Councilmember Hatfield moved to approve the bills (seconded by Councilmember Benish) with the clerk recording affirmative votes.
In other business, Councilmember Shevlin congratulated recent graduates and urged motorists to slow down with students out of school for the summer. Councilmember Hatfield highlighted upcoming community events — an ice cream social and concert for kids on June 9, a relocated farmers market starting June 11, and Chaska Rocks on June 20 — and announced that the city's bond rating remains at AA while the EDA's rating is AA-. "It's AA for the city of Chaska, A minus for EDA," Hatfield said.
A council member raised concerns about e-bike use by younger riders, noting enforcement challenges and urging parental involvement for safety. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn; no controversial votes or ordinances were taken.
