Chaska swears in two honorary police cadets through Grow Through Opportunity program

Police Chief Martinez introduced the City of Chaska epartment rive—or the Grow Through Opportunity program and formally swore in two honorary police cadets during the June 1 City Council meeting.
Chief Martinez said the program is now in its fifth year and that Chaska was among the earliest adopters in the state. He described the program as a multi-department rotation that gives cadets hands-on experience in administration, finance, police, fire, electric, public works, the town course, water and sewer, and the community center. "The strength of our program is all the different city departments," Martinez said.
The council introduced Kayla Gronemeyer, who explicitly gave her name during the oath, and Connor (pronounced by the chief as Kleismit). Each cadet repeated the oath of office and was welcomed by council members and past cadets. A former cadet, Jordan, offered brief advice to the new participants.
Martinez said the program includes a job coach (Val) who will work with cadets each week and that some former cadets have later become employees of the city. The city plans a program recap in August, when cadets will report on which departments they enjoyed most.
The swearing-in was ceremonial; no council action or funding decisions were made during the presentation. Councilmembers and staff took photos and applauded the cadets following the oath.
