Commissioners approve final change order to close out UF water-treatment construction

BRADENTON — County utilities staff told commissioners the ultrafiltration (UF) plant construction has been a long project dating to the 2016–2017 design period. Work with the contractor (PCL) closed out most construction, but staff recommended a modest change order when remaining materials and final fixes proved necessary.
Deputy director Chris Collins said PCL agreed to waive labor and overhead and charge only for materials used to complete the final corrections, producing the change-order figure presented to the board. The board approved execution of the change order and a corresponding budget amendment.
Staff acknowledged outstanding warranty questions with the membrane manufacturer and said procurement is pursuing claims; commissioners requested updates on warranty status and any future change-order risk.
What this means: the construction phase with PCL is complete; utilities staff said the county will continue to pursue warranty reimbursement from the membrane supplier and will update the board if additional costs are required.
