Wenham finance director to leave; town hall offices to return to second floor

Wenham Town Administrator Mr. True told the Select Board on Jan. 20 that Finance Director and town accountant Jeff Sulard has resigned and will leave town service on Jan. 23 to accept a position with the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The board offered public thanks for Sulard’s years of service and the administrator said the town will begin processes to fill the vacancy.

Mr. True said town-hall renovations are nearly complete and that all town-hall offices will return to their original second-floor locations on Thursday. He said a newly built mechanical closet in the second-floor break room requires a sprinkler and fire-retardant ceiling under fire-code rules, which slightly increased the room’s footprint. Staffers expect to move while keeping services open and warned residents that some minor disruptions are possible during the transition.

Staff member Joe said the town had received a letter from an ice-making company in Japan interested in visiting Wenham in early March to tour the Wenham Museum and Wam Lake; the visit would be a short afternoon engagement coordinated with the museum and town clerk. Separately, a board member asked that the town post a meal-train and donation link to help a family on Honeysuckle Road who lost their house in a recent fire and have young children displaced by the loss.

The board also approved the consent agenda, including approval of the Dec. 2, 2025 open-session minutes and the appointment of Althia Cranton to the Council on Aging Board, in a unanimous roll-call vote.

The board’s next meeting schedule and additional staffing steps to replace the finance director were not specified at the meeting.
