Council highlights: volunteer gardens, Shepherd’s Farm pavilion, Strawberry Fest and July 5 fireworks

During council member reports, members gave several community updates and recognitions.

Council member Clawson praised the Pineridge Garden Club and volunteers who maintain flowers around City Hall and city boulevards, and promoted a Green Garden Award administered by the recreation department with nominations due before an August 5 recognition.

Council members also reminded seniors about Tuesday DARTS community bus service to help navigate areas affected by construction; one member sought to clarify whether that service is free and staff responded that costs are minimal or free depending on the program. Members congratulated local high school graduates and thanked participants in the city's Memorial Day event, noting attendance by federal and state representatives.

Council member Mathe described a dedication at Shepherd's Farm for a new pavilion funded by donations and said the farm — operated by the Dodge Nature Center — is open to the public during daylight hours and hosts programs for local schoolchildren. The mayor and council also thanked public works and parks staff for managing multiple large construction projects around town.

Council members announced Strawberry Fest in two weeks and movies in the park on June 19, and a July 5 fireworks display at Kingston Park supported by local sponsors (reported donations of about $40,000 to fund an expanded show). A public workshop on the 2025 fire department annual report was announced to follow the meeting.
