Algonac accepts $159,400 state TMF grant and advances water service-line verification work

The Algonac City Council acknowledged receipt of a $159,400 state Technical, Managerial and Financial (TMF) grant and approved a proposal for professional engineering services from H. Roth & Clark for $103,900 to support verification and replacement work related to water service-line materials.
Mrs. Christoper explained the grant is intended to help the city meet new state requirements for identifying and replacing lead or galvanized service lines on public and private sides. She said the work the city will pay for up front is reimbursable 100% through the TMF grant.
Council also approved Pay Application No. 1 for the Water Service Line Material Verification Program (phase two), awarded previously to Tri County Vac Services as the sole bidder; engineering consultant H. Roth & Clark certified the work completed for the billing period cited in the packet. The pay application amount is recorded in the packet materials (the transcript includes a partially garbled numeric summary in the oral record).
Mrs. Christoper told council that the state now requires annual notifications to customers when water service line materials are unknown; the city mailed postcards to more than 600 residents and will make verification available by calling the water department.
Council voted to approve both the TMF grant acknowledgment and the pay application on roll call. Staff will proceed with verification work and invoice the state for reimbursement under the awarded grant.
