Board approves prepayment to install whiteboards at two middle schools

The Gary Community School Corporation board approved a prepayment to purchase and install whiteboards for Bailey Middle School and Gary Middle School.
Dr. Reita Craig explained the request: two middle schools were not updated during earlier upgrades and the district solicited three quotes. The recommended vendor, Kingdom Kitchen and Bath LLC, offered a bundled price that included demolition of chalkboards, dumpster fees, labor and installation. Staff said choosing one vendor for both supply and installation reduces warranty and coordination risks that can arise if materials and installation are split between firms.
Board members reviewed line-item differences among quotes (material-only vs. demolition and installation fees) and discussed potential change orders if hidden wall conditions are discovered during removal. Administrators said they had received contractor evaluations and estimated timelines to have the work completed before the school year.
The board approved the prepayment by roll call 5to0 and authorized staff to complete the N-98P form required by the Indiana State Board of Accounts for prepayment-type transactions.
