Walhalla City Council voted to adopt Resolution 20248, committing a minimum local match of $1,250 (the required 5% for the city’s population bracket) so the city can apply for up to $25,000 through the Municipal Association of South Carolina’s Hometown Economic Development Grant program.
City staff (Ms. Myers) explained that if awarded, the grant and matching funds would be used to hire professional services to redesign the city website to better market services, events and programs and to make service-request access easier for residents. Staff noted the match would only be required if the city is awarded funds and that a smaller award would require a correspondingly smaller match.
Council members asked clarifying questions about eligibility, procurement and timing; staff said the funds are budgeted in a match line item and that the Municipal Association requires a council resolution to apply. The council moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice/hand vote.
Next steps: staff will submit the grant application before the Municipal Association deadline and, if awarded, return to council with procurement details and vendor recommendations for the website work.
