The Mount Sterling City Council moved to form a three-member committee to review applications for a vacant council seat and recommend a candidate at the next council meeting.
Council member Barnes made the motion to form the committee and said the group should accept resumes from any city resident, review materials within seven days and provide council members an opportunity to give input before a recommendation is presented. "We accept either resumes to anybody that's interested and then we review them and we try to have this done within 7 days," Barnes said.
Dr. King volunteered to serve; Helton and Leford were also named to the committee. The chair said the city will put out a public notice and collect applications, which must be submitted to City Hall by Thursday the 28th, close of business (4:00 p.m.).
The motion was seconded by Helton and the council confirmed the committee. The transcript records the establishment of the three-member committee; the materials and discussion in the meeting specify the timeframe for review and the application deadline.
