The Arundel Select Board on July 14 confirmed town manager Keith’s recommendation to appoint Lena Reintheart (an appraiser who has worked in South Portland’s assessing department since 2018) as Arundel’s new town assessor, effective Aug. 1. Reintheart will meet with staff and be sworn in when she visits the office.
On procurement, departments presented competing truck recommendations for fire and public-works use; bids were submitted as vehicle one and vehicle two with department-specific equipment requirements. The board agreed to proceed with each department’s recommended vendor selections. Members noted that add-on equipment (plows, radios, light packages and other accessories) might add roughly $8,000–$10,000 per vehicle, some of which could be handled by public works in-house.
The Fire Chief reported a compressor failure and solicited bids for a replacement. He recommended a 7.5-horsepower enclosed unit to reduce noise and dust exposure. The package (unit, installation and removal of the old unit) from a vendor familiar to the department was quoted at $42,626.29 and the board voted to accept the recommendation and authorize purchase. Delivery was estimated at four to six weeks and funding was described as part of the building construction package.
The chief also previewed battery-operated extrication tools (commonly called the ‘jaws of life’) and told the board the department had a recommended system; formal funding and vote on that purchase will be on a future agenda with CIP/TIFF listed as likely funding sources.
Finally, the board approved two payable warrants for FY25 and FY26 after confirming an earlier set of checks had been voided and reissued.
The board directed staff to circulate appointment paperwork and to return with cost details if additional procurement decisions require specific budget votes.
