Cam and other League leaders told members that large‑scale economic development projects—particularly AI data centers—have generated legislative interest and media attention. The League reviewed earlier policy resolutions that prioritize a community‑first approach to economic development while preserving local land‑use and tax increment authority.
The Legislature established two new bodies relevant to economic development (an Economic Development Council from HB475 and TIF review in the political subdivisions interim committee under provisions from HB507). The League has representation on some of these boards and said it will form an LPC advisory work group to help develop municipal recommendations on tax increment finance (TIF) and related economic development tools. Cities with active TIF projects were urged to review recently enacted statutory changes and to engage with the League as interim work groups begin meeting.
