Charter commission incorporates May 11 summary into draft report and readies materials for town council

The Charter Revision Commission on June 2 reviewed a redlined draft of its final report and confirmed it had incorporated summaries previously presented to the town council on May 11.

Kathleen said she copied the ‘issues considered’ and recommended non‑charter topics into the draft so that readers and the town council would see a concise summary of items the CRC recommends for further attention (examples include library updates and inland wetlands recommendations). She explained color coding used in the redline file — red for changes, yellow to flag new items, and green for edits made on a personal device — and told members the draft shows the consolidation of edits made since the last meeting.

Commissioners discussed subgroup assignments and how the CRC will deliver any non‑charter recommendations (a memo or document rather than a full public presentation). Members agreed to send materials and suggested they will not meet in a separate public session unless the town council requests reconsideration.

Timing: town council public hearing is scheduled for June 10; the CRC’s next regular meeting is June 16 at 5 p.m., with a possible June 18 follow‑up if council feedback arrives late. Kathleen said the commission must be mindful of statutory deadlines for finalizing charter language and that the town clerk and council ultimately approve final ballot phrasing.

The commission asked staff to circulate a revised draft incorporating the edits discussed and to provide subgroup assignment reminders ahead of the June schedule.
